Renate Lyon was born in Bruenno, Czechoslovakia and raised in Bayreuth, Germany. She came to the United States when she was 14 years old.
She spent four years in New York City, going to school and learning English. She has a Master of Arts degree and taught in New York for ten years.
She moved to California in 1974, where she began to produce prize winning ceramic art in her Pasadena studio.
In 1996, she moved to central Colorado, where she lives today.
Although she also works in enamel and silver, since 1980 her primary focus has been hand painted silk. She specializes in silk made by the gutta serti method. She uses a blend of classic techniques and her own innovative methods to produce uniquely beautiful art.
Her work sells nation wide, and has been included in two Smithsonian catalogs.
