Silk has a language of its own

Crepe de Chine is French for " Crepe of China".  Crepe de Chine is opaque, with substantial body and a textured surface that superficially resembles crepe paper.

Habotai has a traditional smooth feel.  Thicker habotai is translucent.  Thinner habotai is sheer.

MM is the abbreviation for mommie, a Chinese unit used to measure the thickness of silk.  Higher numbers are thicker.

Gutta Serti is a method of silk painting that uses a resist to control dyes.

Hand rolled edges means that the edges of a piece of silk have been finished by rolling each edge and sewing it in place.  In addition to being decorative, it prevents the silk from fraying.
